It's funny how a lot of people look at Hillsong Church and think "Of course they have so many people coming for their events, they're Hillsong!!"
What if.............. *long dramatic pause*
What if, that's not true? What if, Hillsong Church is just like any church out there trying to be as approachable, as relatable as they can be to draw people from all walks of life in? What if Hillsong Church just got really good at taking care of the few who were there from the start that God brought more people to be influenced by them? What if Hillsong Church started small, but was faithful and kept being faithful, always giving their best, loving people, bringing excellence and wanting to help people and God allowed more people to come and gave them more and more influence?
Here are some things I've heard/noticed/observed from the platform here:
Pastor Brian mentioned recently when he was talking about the early stages of Hillsong Church: Never grow old from the mindset of "reaching people", it's always about Jesus and reaching people! When he first started the church it was him and his wife who would drive people around, clean up after and take care of the people in church. Pastor Brian had to wipe windows to pay rent because they struggled to get by, but they kept being faithful and giving their best, desiring to share Jesus with people. His frequently used motto is love God, love people, love life (he talks about having fun along the way too ;))
This was coined by Pastor Bobbie: "One house, but many rooms" - literally with so many locations, over so many states and countries the heart behind the church stays the same. The platform carries the same heart, vision, message all across the world. Of course, they aren't perfect, but the idea is that there is consistency, faithfulness no matter how big the church gets and the message is always personal to impact every individual that walks into the door of Hillsong Church.
Pastor Brian believes in bringing out the potential in each and every person in church because everybody has something to offer that can potentially encourage/change someone's life! It's very often to find that a person's story is shared during church news on a Sunday Morning, how God has impacted someone in Hillsong Church. Every single person has a story to share, how God has met them where they are and saved them in His unique ways! Let's not overlook the potential within the person across the pew from us and forget that Jesus met them, loves them and wants to use them too!
God wants to reach your nation. God wants to reach your city, your friends, He Himself calls us to "go forth and make disciples of all nations" God definitely wants to restore humanity to how it was originally created- people healed and found in unity with Him. Jesus died to unite us with God once again and definitely we are called to reach out to people outside church to bring them to church! buuuuuttttttt..... perhaps for those of us who are leaders in church let's be mindful and consider a few things!."
Are the people under your influence growing spiritually?
Is there effort being made to make sure they are fed into?
Are you so busy wondering how to find more sheep that you forget to care for the sheep you already have? What if Jesus is calling us to care for the sheep we have, take them out for coffee, take time to sow into their lives and speak life into them?
He definitely wants the church to grow, but if He can't trust you with few, how can He trust you with much?
Love God, love people, love life! Disciple, challenge, encourage, call out greatness in each other..
Let's take care of those whom God has entrusted us with alright? :)
Love, Alexa :)
